The Solar Cell.

1905 Albert Einstein published the photoelectric effect (along side the theory of relativity).

1910 Developments over the next 50 years developments increase the potential of solar cells.

1954 Bell Labs develops the silicon photovoltaic (PV) cell. The cells are just 4% efficient.

1964 NASA launches Nimbus – A satellite spacecraft powered by a photovoltaic array.
1977 $76/watt  Solar has a long way to go to rival other sources of energy.
1984 Competition. Over the next 30 years solar cells improved in capacity & cost/watt.
1986 Power Plants. By 2009 over 256,000 Megawatts/year of energy is from solar cells.
2010 SunPower markets Maxeon – The most robust/ efficient solar cells on the market.

The best minds on our planet have worked in the spirit of human triumph to advance civilization. Thanks to pioneers solar cells have come a long way in the last century. It’s time to do something with their contributing knowledge. Solar currently is 22%. Impressive specifications, the future will be powered by solar power. The cost per watt of solar in 2017 is expected to be just 10 cents.
